Weird feelings

Started by: PeterP (11335)

MY wife has been in hospital since last Monday. Over the last few days maybe due to tiredness I have had weird thoughts I keep looking across to her chair thinking she is sat there. Last night I must of nodded of in the chair till about 1-00am then went to bed but could not settle. About 5-00 I convinced myself the missus was shouting for me(she normally sleeps in the back bedroom) I heard noises and got up to make sure she was OK(I sleep in the front bedroom) Obviously she was not there. The noises could have been pigeons/cat or a squirrel. It was a very weird sensation.

She cannot stand up and even with assistance no joy . I am in the midst of getting an electric adjustable bed delivered plus lifting equipment and other equipment put into place. then a care package has to be put into place then she will come home and be looked after by me/carers with a bit of luck.

Thanks to one and all. They are delivering some equipment tomorrow. Just finished dismantling her bed and put in the front bedroom. Cleaned the skirting board and vacuumed also took a hand rail off the wall. May have to move a set of draws will wait till bed is delivered. Tried to book bulk collection on line twice.1st time would not recognise my landline phone number and both times would not recognise my address I have sent them an E-mail with my request again cannot find a phone number for bulk waste dept and I know it is a bank holiday week end so would have had to wait till Tuesday. Modern technology sometimes never works

We used to shoot at a farm, just off the east lancs road, Leigh, the farmer was an old guy called Jim Belcher.
He used to see his wife regularly, having conversations with her and everything. She’d been dead 20 years!
He’s say, “aaaaye, ah sin ‘er last neet, her’d ston’ theer, t’foot o’ t’stairs, cleanin’ t’little winduuuur, laaaaike ‘er alus did”!

He was on his 90’s.

It comes to us all, Peter!

Equipment delivered but the hoist is the wrong type for YvonneThe one supplied is for use with a harness round you and you stand on a platform and hold onto two handles and then you are raised into a upright position for transfer to a chair. This is no good for Yvonne because at this time she has loss the use of her legs and cannot stand up and she has the use of only her left arm/hand since her stroke.(11 years ago). It will be sorted some time but Yvonne will not be coming home till the right equipment is in place and a care package is sorted out. The set of draws and a folding table will be picked up Weds(BHF). If no joy by bulk waste dept by Weds then I will take the mattress to the skip and put the bed frame out for travelling friends Again thank you all for your messages of support

Total brassed off with the NHS/ Council system ,I received a phone call from the hospital to say Yvonne was coming home this afternoon. Which would have been ok by me. BUT yesterday they have sent the wrong type of hoist. Informed them Yvonne was not coming home until the correct hoist was in place. They also said a care package was in place and carers would be coming at tea time. Again they were told no one had discussed with me about a care plan so pointless sending carers if they don't know anything about Yvonne and what our needs are. If I am paying for carers I want a plan for Yvonne's needs. Been waiting nearly two hours for a call back from the hospital. All they want is to free a bed space

Peter the care that will be in place when your wife leaves hospital is set up until you and your wife have discussed a package of care with a social worker., and a more permanent package is agreed and set up.. I went through the same with an aunt. Hope this helps also hope the correct hoist is delivered soon

Good idea to put a camera in the room where your wife will be as I've seen carers stealing or harming patients on "Caught red handed"

Paul Daniels must work for the NHS? After 17 days they got her to stand up for 10 seconds then discharged her to her bed the day after. Now carers are in 4 times a day to get her from her bed to her chair and back to bed via a hoist/wheelchair. District nurse has been also Manual Handling .Hope O/T come next week to try to get her to stand up

PeterP

I hope you get everything sorted out, and the NHS is in a right state, I blame the population increase due to immigration, and on top of that they have closed hospitals, take your wife's problem with having a stroke, there used to be a very well thought of stroke unit at Whelley Hospital, now long gone, the Billinge Maternity hospital gone, and I think worst of all the downgrading of Leigh Infirmary, it used to have it's own casualty department, but it was closed, and now all cases which could have used the above are sent so Wigan
